Size and thickness
Concrete is bought by the cubic yard: length x width x thickness. A thicker driveway or a floor for heavy equipment takes more concrete. Try our concrete calculator.
Site prep
Stripping soil, cut and fill, and stone base can be a big share of the job, especially on slopes or soft ground. We do it with our own equipment, which helps.
Tear-out
Removing and hauling away old concrete, pavers or asphalt adds time and trucking.
Access and pumping
If a mixer can't reach the forms, concrete has to be pumped or wheeled. Big slabs often need a pump truck.
Finish
Broom finish is the simplest. Stamped work adds color, release, stamping labor and sealer.
Reinforcement, drains and extras
Rebar, mesh, thickened edges, floor drains, hydrants and conduit all add to the job, and they're cheaper to plan in than to add later.
Timing
Cold weather protection adds cost in late fall and early spring.
