Pole Barn & Barndominium Floors

Big floors are where planning pays off. We've poured pole barn floors, big slabs and a 60 yard barndominium floor in Holland Patent. Our crew does the dirt work, the stone base, the forms, the pour and the power-troweled finish.

Floors we've poured

  • Barndominium floor, Holland Patent. About 60 yards of concrete poured over radiant heat tubing on insulation board, screeded and power troweled. See the project.
  • Pole barn floor. Vapor barrier and wire mesh laid inside the frame, then poured and finished smooth. See the project.
  • 40 by 80 slab, North Norwich. A monolithic slab. See the project.

What to decide before the pour

  • Inside or before the walls? Some floors go in after the building is up, which keeps weather off the pour. Others go in while it's still a frame. We've done both.
  • Heat. If you're putting in radiant floor heat, the tubing and insulation board go down before the pour and we place the concrete over them. Your heating contractor lays out the tubing. We protect it during the pour.
  • Vapor barrier. Under a heated or finished space, a vapor barrier under the slab helps keep ground moisture out.
  • Thickness. Sized for what's going on it. Tractors, trucks and lifts need more than a workshop.
  • Drains, plumbing and doors. Floor drains, plumbing stubs and the slope toward overhead doors all get set before concrete shows up.

Big pours, done right

A large floor means multiple concrete trucks and sometimes a pump. We bring enough crew to keep up, use a power screed to get it flat, and finish with power trowels. Saw cut control joints go in on a grid once the concrete can take it.

Questions

Straight answers.

Don't see yours? Call (607) 244-5118. You'll talk to the people doing the work.

How thick should a pole barn floor be?

It depends on use. Light storage and a workshop can be thinner than a floor that holds tractors or heavy trucks. Our pole barn floor guide covers the details, and we'll size yours on the walk-through.

Can you pour over radiant floor heat?

Yes. We poured a 60 yard barndominium floor over radiant tubing on insulation board in Holland Patent. The tubing is laid by the heating contractor before the pour.

Do you do the site prep too?

Yes. We dig, grade and build the stone pad with our own equipment, and we can deliver the stone with our own dump truck.
